Avatar Medical Launches Avatar Medical Academy: Advancing Global Medical Education and Training

Avatar Medical, a pioneer in 3D and extended reality (XR) medical image visualization, announces the launch of Avatar Medical Academy, an innovative solution designed to enhance medical education worldwide. Following the success of its research tool — used by institutions such as the Institut Curie, and Fondation Lumiere at the Necker children’s hospital — Avatar Medical Academy is now being adopted by prestigious universities and hospitals across the globe.
Universities such as La Sorbonne (France), University of Aberdeen (UK), Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), and the City University of New York (USA), have integrated Avatar Medical Academy into their curriculum. Hospitals in Paris and in Brittany are getting equipped to accelerate the training of surgeons and OR nurses.
Designed to Meet the Demands of Surgeons and Educators
The development of Avatar Medical Academy was driven by strong demand from surgeons and professors who needed engaging and interactive tools for teaching anatomy, radiology, physiopathology and diagnostics. The platform offers students and care providers hands-on educational experiences, helping them understand complex anatomical structures and radiological images in ways that traditional cadavers and textbooks cannot.
Shayan Huda, an MS2 student at CUNY, shared: "With Avatar Medical, it changed the way I could see the anatomy compared to cadavers. I can see the whole structure and access radiology anytime I need it."
Unique Approach to Medical Education
What sets Avatar Medical Academy apart is its foundation on real patient imaging for a more accurate, real-world learning experience. Students and interns can explore all fields simultaneously in VR, enhancing their understanding and offering a fluid, interactive way to manipulate images.
With 25 anatomy modules already available and growing, the platform is continuously expanding to meet the needs of medical educators. In a maxillo-facial clinical study (Bouaoud et al., J Stomatol Oral Maxillofac Surg 122 (2021)), 92% of students reported that Avatar Medical was beneficial for better visualizing fracture lines. To date, hundreds of students have already benefited from Avatar Medical for educational purposes.
Three Tailored Packages
Avatar Medical Academy offers three levels to meet different educational needs:
- Essentials: VR-based 3D anatomy exploration and basic content creation tool, ideal for university instructors and professors.
- Expert: Essentials + Advanced content creation tools for more complex educational programs.
- Premium: Expert + Customized educational content created by Avatar Medical experts, providing a fully tailored solution.
A Mission to Democratize Medical Imaging
“As part of our mission to democratize access to medical images for surgeons, students, and ultimately patients, Avatar Medical Academy provides an immersive, hands-on learning experience,” said Elodie Brient-Litzler, COO of Avatar Medical. “By combining real patient imaging with VR, we bring students closer to reality, making their learning more effective. They can also learn pathological anatomy and how to read real medical images at the same time!”
Looking Ahead: Avatar Medical Vision
Avatar Medical is also preparing to launch Avatar Medical Vision, a CE-marked software designed to enhance communication between doctors and patients during consultations and support surgical planning in Europe.
